Questions to make you think about a career in journalism Part 1
Hey friends,
Trying to figure out where journalism stands in your life? Then read on…
1. Are you having problems to figure out if a career in journalism is for you?
2. Do you feel it’s hard to find a good paying journalism job?
3. Are you considering taking the leap from journalism to another media field, ie. marketing/advertising, because you reckon the latter has better pay and you’ll still be writing?
4. Are you unsure if you really have a passion for journalism?
If you answered YES to all or even one of these questions then you’re probably experiencing an inner journalism conflict.
Welcome to my world, my current conflict and struggle to make a career decision that will affect my life long-term.
If you’re reading this blog then you know what I’m talking about. You have this ‘bug’ too! Just like you, there are thousands of aspiring and new journalists, and other media workers struggling to decide if journalism will make them rich and happy.
Yes, you can make it big and rich if you become well known journalist, but the truth is these prominent journalists are a relatively small (and most of the times ‘elite’) group.
Instead, senior journalists say new journalists tend to be the most hit hard with low salaries and longer working hours (some unpaid). You don’t have to be rich and famous, but you certainly should be happy.
New journalists struggling to get their foot into the door who have either short-term or no exposure to the industry find more difficult to decide how strong and real is their passion for journalism.
